Harnessing the Power and Promise of Distributed Software and Systems

We live in a connected world – an interdependent web of economic, social and political entities.  Actions of one potentially affect the behaviors of all.  Whether you believe that information technology helped spawn this connected and interdependent world or merely co-evolved with it, it is clear that modern software and systems engineering has been profoundly impacted.  This conference is dedicated to the development of software and systems that harness the power in this web rather than fall victim to it.

The ubiquitous spread of the Internet and the World Wide Web has had a twofold impact on software and systems engineering: it has impacted the way enterprises interact with their customers and partners, and it has changed the way they develop software applications. Among the more common approaches that are being used are service-oriented architectures, web services, SAAS, cloud computing, P2P, grids, JBI and SCA. These approaches leverage the distributed nature of the systems to make them more flexible, adaptable, and better suited to users’ needs.  In contrast to the tightly-coupled designs of older technologies, modern software and systems deliver capability through a kaleidoscope of loosely-coupled elements riding on infrastructure. Oftentimes project management is also a distributed process.  Not only are teams geographically spread, but also a team must cooperate with members outside their own organization in order to successfully complete a project. Software and systems producers can no longer act in total isolation – they must themselves become dependent on component or service providers, on VAR’s, and even on proactive customers.

Co-organized by TELECOM ParisTech, CS Communication & Systems, and the Génie Logiciel quarterly, the 22^nd edition of the ICSSEA Conference (International Conference on Software & Systems Engineering and their Applications) will be held in Paris on December 7-9, 2010. By gathering actors from across the industry and research worlds, it aims at providing a critical survey of the status of tools, methods, and processes for elaborating software & systems.  Lectures and discussions will be conducted with the issues of coupling and interoperability of distributed software and systems as the leitmotiv.

TOPICS

As for previous editions, any topic in connection with software engineering & systems engineering is eligible. However, the following topics, viewed through the perspective of systems and services distribution and interoperability, will be particularly appreciated:

Papers submitted, original and unpublished, may concern industrial implementations or experiments, describe significant results from ongoing projects as well as research results susceptible of industrial applications, deal with socioeconomic issues associated with software & systems engineering, or propose tool demonstrations and posters. They should clearly describe the nature of the work presented, explain its contribution, highlight its novel features, and state precisely its current status.

All types of systems are eligible: adaptive, autonomous, context-aware, distributed, embedded, grid computing, mobile, real-time, service-oriented, ubiquitous, Web-based... All end-user domains and economic areas are eligible: information systems, process management, automotive, avionics, banking, defense, energy, health care, insurance, telecommunications, transportation...

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Submission and selection of proposed interventions will be conducted as follows:

1- Submit, before June 15, 2010,

- for industrial implementations and experiments, a text of at least 1000 words (about 5,000 characters, figures excluded), in English, including the title of the paper, an abstract of about 200 words, and the address, phone and fax numbers as well as the email address of the authors. If already available, a complete text (about 20,000 characters) would be welcome.

- for applied research results, a text not exceeding 20,000 characters (figures included), in English, including the title of the paper, a 200-500 word summary, and the address, phone and fax numbers as well as the email address of the authors.

- for tools demonstrations and posters presentations, a text not exceeding 2 pages

2- Full papers or extended abstracts will be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers and selected by the International Program Committee.

3- Authors of accepted papers or extended papers will be notified as from July 15, 2010 and will receive the recommendations made by the International Program Committee.

4- Authors of accepted abstracts or full papers should provide, before September 1^st, 2010, a text not exceeding 20,000 characters, figures included, in the form of a file, in Word format, attached to an electronic message. Final texts will be submitted, for final checking, to the International Program Committee before publication in the Conference Proceedings available during the event.

5- At least one author is required to register and attend the conference to present the paper

Procédés logiciels et Ingénierie des modèles;

Cette journée vise à instaurer un cycle annuel de réunions des chercheurs concernés par cette thématique Procédés logiciels et Ingénierie des modèles. Elle s'adresse aussi bien aux concepteurs de procédés logiciels (développant ou formalisant des méta-modèles, langages, PSEE ou autres en utilisant l'IDM) qu'aux utilisateurs de ces formalismes pour décrire des procédés particuliers. Ces réunions seront l'occasion pour chacun de présenter des travaux en cours, ou des résultats plus aboutis. Elles seront un lieu d'échange où de nouveaux thèmes de recherche et de nouveaux partenariats pourront ainsi émerger.

Ce 23 juin se voulant être l'événement fondateur de cette dynamique, il a été exceptionnellement organisé sous forme de présentations invitées, le programme prévisionnel est le suivant :

UML&AADL’2010 s'est déroulé avec succès, des questions vivantes et enrichissantes, du monde industriel comme académique. Une vingtaine de participants, avec de très bonnes présentations des Toulousains. Le panel était vraiment réussi, d'un très bon niveau. Il était centré sur l'état de l'art des travaux sur AADL et ses annexes. Un résumé devrait être publié sur SIGBED.

Le buffet, qui s'est déroulé à Trinity College était grandiose, une salle gigantesque ornée de tableaux magnifiques et datant du 16eme siècle.  Enfin The Eagle and the baby, le pub de Tolkien,  a été également très apprécié !!!

L'année prochaine rendez vous à Las Vegas.

UML/AADL Team.

La journée de travail sur l'ingénierie des besoins intitulée: "Les bonnes pratiques de l'ingénierie des besoins", organisée par le  club Système Complexes de la SEE (à Paris le 16 Mars 2010), a été un super succès, la salle était comble (environ 45 personnes dont 60% d'industriels). Suite à ce succès nous allons poursuivre notre effort, l'objectif étant d'organiser une autre journée (thème à définir) d'ici fin décembre. Un grand merci aux organisateurs, et notamment au LIP6, qui nous a reçu avec classe, merci également aux orateurs pour leur implication et leur motivation.
